Shop owner calls & scolds loan shark.
Illegal lender splashes paint on wrong Boon Lay fruit shop inb bid to scare borrower.
When Madam Chen Meiling, 38, found out ytd that loanshark runners hand splashed paint on her fruits shop, she was shocked.
She checked and found out that the loan sharks had meant to target a worker from a neighbouring fruits stall.
So the gutsy woman called the loan shark and scolded him for wrongly targeting her shop.
She said that none of her 10 employees had owed money to loan sharks.
The words " Ah Boy O$P$ and the loan shark's contact number had been among the graffiti.
Madam Chen, who owns Freshen Fruits Shop at Boon Lay MRT station, told the New Paper in Mandarin: "AhBoy is a young man who works at another fruit shop.
"In fact, I called the loan shark to scold him for targeting the wronf person. But not only did he accse me of lying, but he also threatened to splash my shop with paint again in a few days' time.
Ah Boy
" The loan shark said Ah Boy had told him he works in a fruit shop in the Boon Lay interchange and his runners thought that it had to be my shop."
When The New Paper visited the fruit shop mentioned by Madam Chen, the staff confirmed that Ah Boy worked there.
They said he had not turned up for work for at least a week and did not know if he owed money to loan sharks.
When Madam Chen's workers arrived to open the shop at 7am ytd, they found the exterior splashed with black paint.
" I was managing my other shop in Jurong West when my workers called me to tell me what happened," she said.
" I was shocked and rushed over to check the damage."
She said this was the first such incident since she started the fruit business more than a year a go.
She called the police, who arrived at around 8am to take her statement and photograph the paint marks.
When The New Paper arrived at 10.30am, Madam Chen and two workers were busy trying to remove the paint from the glass panels.
She said her business was hit as many customers did not dare to walk into the shop after seeing the stains.
" This is bad. I didn't sell anything from 7am to 11am. Usually, I'd get several customers every hour."
It was only after 11am that Madam Chen had five customers, with two asking what had happened.
Mr John Tan, 50, a marketing manager, said:" I always come here to buy fruits. It's not that messy, except that I had to walk over the paint stains."
An SMRT spokeman said its stations are patrolled and there are closed-circuit television to monitor commuter activities.
She said:" SMRT has since mobilised our staff and cleaners to remove the paint on the shop front, and we will render the necessary assistance to our tenant as well."
The New Paper's attempts to contact the loan shark were unsuccessful.
The police are investigating. ;O
